Sunday Drive

We took a Sunday drive and drove up one of the canyons for breakfast and ended up at the zoo.
They had a wonderful bird show that was going on and we barely made it into the show.

Taken at Hogle Zoo during a bird show.

Crystal Hot Springs - Behind the Falls

I took this picture in the pool while 40 or 50 people watched oohing and awing. It was quite comical. I didn't look at anyone except the girls and the whole time I was hoping that I didn't drop my camera.

July 24

Tonight, Lois and I went to a cemetery to place some flowers on a grave. (I Miss You)
This is always a sad time for us. We left there and decided to go to another cemetery not far away. Here, there are always wild deer roaming the grounds with their fawns. It always makes us smile.

Yellowstone 2010 (part II)

This critter spotted us from the bottom of a hill and then ran all the way up to say hi.

Road shot

Somewhere between Mammoth and Tower?

This eagles nest weighs about a ton and is just inside the west entrance. It has been there for the past 4 years since we started visiting the park.

Yellowstone Lake a little before sunset.

Yellowstone 2010 (part I)

These white caps are from strong winds skimming across the top of Yellowstone Lake. We escaped for a few days and visited one of our favorite parks.

On one of the Continental Divide pull offs we stopped for a rest and checked out this lily pond.

This Bison is sharing lunch with some birds.

This is taken up on Blacktail Deer loop that is between Mammoth and Tower. The six mile dirt road is always a nice place to visit. This year there were many patches of wildflowers and the hills were very green.

Tower Creek is another place we like to stop and visit. The water and the canyon are always amazing to look at.
This year we saw a lot of bald eagles and 5 bears. First we saw one grizzly and then we saw a black bear. As we drove off from seeing the black bear we came upon another grizzly and her two cubs. I still have to go through a lot of pictures before I can post any of them.
We had a nice time and it was a much needed break. I am however glad to be back home.

Great Blue Heron

Lois and I stumbled across these birds out at 5800 W. and 18th S. (California Ave). There are some wet lands called Lee Kay Ponds and they are open to the public most of the year. I noticed these heron on this old power structure and we stopped and looked at them with the binoculars. We ran home and got the zoom lens because they sat quite a ways off the road. Lois noticed that all the nest had babies in them when we got back. (click on picture for new window and then click again). There is one that you can see in the first shot rather well.

Chinchilla

We are babysitting two of these guys for three weeks. When I say we I actually mean the girls are. They are really kind of cute. But they sure make a lot of noise. The Tiger cat is very interested in them.

Sunset

These pictures were taken from high above North Salt Lake city looking out across the lake and the marsh lands towards Antelope Island.

Utah Governor's Mansion

Built in 1902 by prominent mining magnate Thomas Kearns. Designed by Utah architect Carl M. Neuhausen.
I have had a chance to visit this place a few times over the years and from a historic perspective the mansion is quite impressive. After taking these pictures I found out that they do tours through the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I plan on returning. The sad thing is that they don't allow cameras or recording devices into the Mansion. Sigh. What's that all about?

Paragliders

Lois and I drove up to the Point of the Mountain tonight to take some pictures. I forgot my other lens so they aren't very good shots. Now that we know how to get up there we will be going back.
