San Francisco 2010

I don't think Aly remembers very much from her first time visiting the ocean.
This picture seems to capture her apprehension as she approaches the water

I took this shot as a landmark. It wasn't until later that I noticed all the books flying out of the window.
City Lights Bookstore is just across the street. Sadly I didn't know it or I would have stopped for a visit.

I was amazed at how beautiful the landscape was as we came out of Donner Pass.
This was only about ten minutes out, moments earlier we were in a snowstorm.
We were searching for Happy Cows but none were close enough to the road.

The girls were craving crepes so we went to a place on Pier 39.
This is a picture of The Ceiling.

As usual, my fascination with honeybees always stops me in my tracks.
I don't know why.

The Hard Rock Cafe is another obsession I have.
I probably have a dozen shirts or so from different cities.
This is my first picture though.

  2. It looks like you guys had a wonderful time! I think it was a great suggestion that Lois made about your starting a photo blog! That picture of the books flying out the window is really interesting! What the heck was going on there?

The girls are looking so mature! They are growing into beautiful young women! Do you have your shotgun ready?

    Hugs,

  3. Debra,
I think the flying books are a sort of promo advertising the bookstore. City Lights Bookstore is a famous world renowned bookstore in Chinatown that was founded in 1953. That's all I know.
I was thinking that when the boys start showing up I will take off my shirt and rub some grease across my face and chest. By then I should have a couple of really big scars to give them something to think about.

    :-)

  4. Beautiful photos! I enjoy playing around with photography too so you'll have to show me how you took the subway photo and kept the girls so sharp.

San Francisco is such a fun city! I hope you had a wonderful time.

  5. I love these photos! The girls are so lucky to have such awesome parents that take them traveling, AND document the experience in flattering photos. I think I have exactly one picture from when I was that age and it is one that I like to hide when I find it. You know: one eye open, mouth agape mid-sentence when it was taken. Lol.

  7. These are all amazing! This one is my favorite. The girls are so beautiful and the train...well, they symbolism kind of chokes me up...this from a mom who's seven year old son said he didn't need me to read him his bedtime story....yes, the train is moving so quickly.

really all of these are beautiful. I too am very happy your wife suggested you start a photo blog. thank her for me. she is generous.

  8. Nikki,
Thanks. The subway photo isn't hard. It depends on your camera. If you have a nice 35mm there should be a dial with it's settings indicating landscapes and portraits and action (usually a figure of someone running). Action is also known as the sports icon. That is the one you want to shoot with.

Oh, I get it. If you notice, there are rarely pictures of me on my blog.

    Chelle,
Thanks, following Chella365 really inspired me. I think your blog is awesome.

    Kristine,
This is my favorite also. I like the baby bear too.
